Benefits Of Outdoor Workouts

Research suggests that getting outdoors will not only improve your physical health but also your mental health. According to the School of Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, research shows evidence of lower frustration, engagement and arousal, and higher meditation when moving through an outdoor green space (6). If you didn’t need another excuse for getting outdoors, this information is just the cherry on top!
Getting outside has also been proven to lengthen your workouts by the mere distraction of being outdoors (7). An exercise physiologist from the University Wisconsin-La Crosse, John Porcari, stated, “We did a study where subjects rode through a virtual countryside and raced against other people, and we found they exercised 12 percent harder because they were distracted.”

The Wildlife Trusts published a study conducted on 451 children that proved 4 out of 5 children felt more confident after playing outside (10). Research also showed 84% of children felt capable of doing new things after participating in outdoor activities and 79% felt they learned something that could help with their schoolwork.
So, getting outdoors in collaboration with promoting a healthy and active lifestyle may be another great way to be a healthy role model for children.

By scanning the QR code at the beginning of your workout with your smartphone, you can text your fitness questions or comments directly to your iFIT trainer, and they may answer live before your workout begins.
