Start Strong And Stay Strong All Year With NordicTrack

Start Strong And Stay Strong All Year With NordicTrack | NordicTrack Blog

At this point in the year, it isn’t uncommon for people to start struggling to keep their New Year’s Resolutions. Some of the problems may be due to how the goals are structured or the lack of the right tools.

For instance, a recent survey of top New Year’s Resolutions for 2020 for Americans showed that eating healthier, being active, and losing weight are among the top eight goals that people set. Yet, without setting structured goals and the right equipment, it can be tough to reach any health and fitness goals.

As your source for excellent fitness equipment and health and fitness tips, we are here with advice on how to help you start your year off strong and to stay strong.

Start With Effective Health And Fitness Goals

Before we dive into how NordicTrack can help you, let’s start by taking a look at your goals this year. Part of the failure to stick to New Year’s Resolutions is because the goals are not structured enough to help you get to the finish line. Instead of becoming frustrated with broad, vague goals, it may be time to start setting SMART goals.

This acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound (SMART). To help illustrate how a SMART goal is set, let’s say that you have a goal to run a half-marathon this year. The problem is, you haven’t run more than a mile in years, and you aren’t sure where to start. So, let’s take this vague goal and make it a SMART goal.

Specific

Start Strong – NordicTrack Blog

Knowing that you want to run a half-marathon is a little specific, but you can narrow down your goal further. Rather than just say you want to run a half-marathon, pick a specific half-marathon and register for it. By doing this, you can give yourself a concrete date to work towards.

Measurable

Ask yourself why this particular goal is meaningful or motivating for you. Does running a half-marathon mean something special, is it a step to a larger goal, etc.? By determining your motivations behind a goal, you can have better reasons to stick with it. You need to be able to track your progress as well – if you can measure how far you’ve come, you’ll be more likely to stick with it. Tracking your progress with iFit can give you a clear view of the progress you’ve made and what area needs improvement.

Attainable

Setting the goal of running a half-marathon should be achievable, notably more so than a race that was a more lofty distance. However, it is important to check with your doctor before embarking on a new course of exercise, especially if you have health concerns. If your doctor is on-board with you running and building toward a half-marathon, then you should be in the clear.

Relevant

When you choose the goal of running a half-marathon, you should question the relevance of the goal. If building towards accomplishing a full marathon and lifelong fitness habits are the main motivators, then eventually running a half-marathon can be useful to that goal.

Time-Bound

Similar to setting a specific goal, there should be a set time frame where your goal is achieved. Signing up for a race is a great way to create a time-sensitive goal. That way, you don’t go throughout the year waiting for the right time to start and putting off for a “more convenient” time.

Now that you have a good idea of how to get SMART and be effective with your goals, let’s look at the tools that can help you achieve success.
