Comments: There are pros & cons to the 990 Pro by NordicTrack. Pros: This elliptical was my third choice, but ultimately I had to stick within a budget of under $1000. For the money, it's a great machine; It's smooth, solid and very quiet; It's a better workout than the treadmill without the impact; It has an iPod hookup and now links directly to iFit (wifi) without buying any additional software; You get both upper and lower body workouts. It definitely felt better than anything else I compared it to within the price range. The customer service is a BIG PLUS. Though I bought it through a retailer, when I had a problem - right out of the box - one phone call to NordicTrack and they sent out a new part without any question or charge. Cons: The console was defective and I suspect it's a common problem as the customer service agent ordered a new one for me over the phone without so much as a question when I explained what wasn't working; One feature that I counted on is the adjustable stride. This was important as both myself & my husband will be using it - we vary in height and he needs the longer stride. Well, this does adjust - but it's connected to the incline! If a person wants the longest stride (20") they also have to use the highest incline (30 degrees). Not great when you're just starting out and need the beginning level!!! Also, in order to check your pulse, you have to take your hands off the arm workout and put them on the stationery handles, thus stopping your upper body workout and not getting a true rate. Besides that, the pulse check doesn't seem all that accurate as it bounces all over the place. This could be a part of the defective console - not sure yet. Lastly, the fan is really loud and the iPod speakers are not. I'd rather use ear buds or headphones anyway - so no problem. All in all, I'm happy - the only feature I wish was included was a big arm that would reach out, pick me up and put me on the machine! Wouldn't that be convenient?!
